August Banik was a native of the village of Falkenhain in the Posen area of Germany. August was the son of Wilhelm Banik and Caroline Petrich. August Banik's parents were married November 11, 1855 in Tremessen, Posen, Germany. August Banik's paternal grandfather was Christoph Banik and his maternal grandfather was Martin Petrich.
August Banik married Augusta Drews on January 10, 1884 in a civil service in Rogowo, Posen, Germany, and they came to Texas within a year of their marriage. The marriage record states that August's father, Wilhelm Banik, had died prior to 1884 in Jeziora, Posen, and that August's mother, Caroline Banik, was still living in Jeziora.
August and Augusta Banik lived in Washington and Fayette Counties before moving to Falls County, Texas. Around the turn of the century, they settled in McLennan County, Texas. On November 1, 1904, August Banik purchased 96-acres of land from J. H. Schroeder in the Ross Community of McLennan County. August Banik made a $500.00 down payment on the property.

Funeral services were held Saturday for August Banik, 93, who died at 7:15 p.m. Thursday at his residence at Elm Mott.
The services were held at Aderhold's Chapel in West Saturday at 2 p.m. and at 3 p.m. at St. Paul's Evangelical and Reformed Church at Gerald. The Rev. John G. Mueller officiated.
Survivors are five sons, Ernest Banik of Elm Mott, Albert Banik of Crosby, Fritz Banik of Waco, Herman Banik of Hubbard and William Banik of Houston; four daughters, Mrs. Ottilie Rolke of Dayton, Mrs. Hulda Bluhm of West, Mrs. Freida Kern of New Orleans, Mrs. Helen Kablitz of N. East, Pennsylvania; 29 grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren.
