Gail A. Rollins, 79, died Friday, June 20, 2008, at Syringa General Hospital in Grangeville after a three-year battle with cancer.
He was born March 31, 1929, to Luke and Jessie Rollins in Chehalis, Wash. He later moved to Idaho, where he met his love of his life, Ruth Burman of Riggins. The two were happily married on Sept. 26, 1953. Together, they brought two beautiful children into the world, Leland and Loletta Rollins.
He was a hard worker and family man. He served in the military, drove truck, built roads, tested gravel samples and much more. He retired from the Idaho State Transportation Department and focused his time on hunting, fishing, riding ATVs and spending time with his family. He enjoyed teaching his kids and grandkids all that he could. He was dedicated to a life of service to his family and friends.
He is survived by his wife of 54 years, Ruth Rollins of Grangeville; son, Leland (Genevieve) Rollins of Stites; grandsons, Carlos (Melanie) Martinez of Kooskia; Vincent (Elizabeth) Martinez of Kooskia; Scott Rollins of Stites; Anthony Martinez of Stites; granddaughters, Leticia Martinez of Kamiah; Judith McHone of Harrah, Okla.; seven nieces; two nephews; and numerous cousins.
He was preceded in death by his brother, Richard Rollins; sisters, Marion Purdy and Evelyn Cox; daughter, Loletta Rollins; and grandson, Kevin Rollins.
He was cremated, and at his request, no services will be held. The family plans on getting together at a later date to have a dinner in celebration of his life. Thank you to all who have cared for, and provided love and support to the family.
