Franklin was "Killed In Action" when his B-29, minutes after taking off from the airfield at Chengdu, China at night, crashed during the war. They were taking off on a bombing mission to an aircraft plant in Omura, Japan.
He was originally interred at the Schofield Barracks, Hawaii and was later re-interred here on June 8, 1949.
He was awarded the Purple Heart.
