Dale Barnes Archer, 96, of Winfield, Kansas, passed away Wednesday afternoon, June 18, surrounded by family at William Newton Memorial Hospital.
Born December 11, 1911 on a farmstead east of Winfield, he was the son of Nathaniel "Mood" and Amanda (Taylor) Archer. He was raised in rural Winfield and began his education at the Harmony School and the Number One School. He graduated from Winfield High School in 1930, and as a young man began farming in the Tisdale Community.

Dale was united in marriage to Grace Allene Prigmore on January 13th, 1945, in McPherson. The couple made their home on a farm six mile east of Winfield where they raised their four children.

Dale was actively involved in farming throughout his entire life. He also worked with the Cowley County Noxious Weed Department for many years until he retired in 1974 as the weed director.

He was a life long member of the Tisdale United Methodist Church. At the time of his passing, Dale was the oldest, continuous member of the church.

His family includes: His wife: Allene of Winfield; His daughters: Alice Rhodes and husband, Virgil of Phoenix, AZ; Lois Kelley and husband, Kenneth of Winfield; His sons: Keith Archer and wife, Charlene of Winfield; Merle and wife, Mickey of Winfield; His sister: Ruth Sparks and husband, Henry of Winfield; and His 9 grandchildren and 5 great grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Mood and Amanda Archer, his brothers, Roy Archer, Clay Archer and Mace Archer, and his sisters, Veryle Moon, Beryle Norton, Letha Rising and Nadine Lumbert.

Funeral Services will be held on Saturday, June 21, 2008 at 2:00 P.M. at Miles Funeral Service. Interment will follow at Highland Cemetery. Reverend Kathryn Graver will officiate. Friends may call at the funeral home on Friday evening from 5 to 9 P.M. The family will greet visitors from 6 to 8 that evening.
