Patience Haines was of the first generation of her family to be born in Ohio. She was born in Logan Co., Ohio on 21 Jun 1824. Her father, Joseph Haines, a veteran of the War of 1812, was a minister as well as a farmer in Logan County. Her mother, Rachel Ballinger, was of Quaker background. Patience married John S. Wilgus, a native of Delaware, on Mar 27, 1843, in Logan County, Ohio. This couple were the parents of sixteen children: Narcissa Ann, Henry Asberry, Caleb, Lydia, Louisa Emeline, Lorenzo Dow, Mary Etta, Hester Jane, Alice Rachel, David Warwick, John Borman, Edith and Charles Lamon (twins), Martha, Margaret Wilda and Rachel J. Patience (Haines) Wilgus died on 15 Feb 1870 in Perry, Logan, Ohi and is buried in North Greenfield Cemetery.
