William "Uncle Billy" Burris

Birth: Feb. 14, 1809
Death: Feb. 24, 1898

"Billy" was born probably in Virginia (possibly Kentucky) to Jesse Burris and Rebecca Dawson. On Mar 12, 1831, he married Martha Summers (c 1813-1883?) in Randolph County, Missouri. Contrary to everything out there, Martha has no middle name. To this union, 9 children were born: Elizabeth, Joseph M, Charlotte Rebecca, Matilda Ann, Mary Minerva, Virginia, Martha S, William J, and Missouri Cordelia. In the early 1870s, the Burris' moved to Carroll County, Arkansas. After the death of his wife, Martha, "Billy" remarried to Bettie L.F. Queen, a woman 51 years his junior. Many researchers mistake her for Martha. To this union, three possible known children were born: Isabella, George, and Isaac (although Isaac's birth of March 1890 doesn't mesh with Billy's death). Billy died near Braswell Springs.
