Harpley W Johnson was born in Creek Nation, Edna, OK son of Keeper and Jeanetta Scott Johnson. He attended Nyuka Boarding School for the lower grades then went to Haskell Institute in Lawrence, KS where he played football. Harpley later was sent to Phoenix Indian School where he could recieve treatment for TB. This was where he met his frist wife Amy Winifred Cajeyadmani After their marriage they lived in Arizona until Harpley felt the call to return to his alloted land in Oklahoma where he was born. Oil was discovered on his land which enabled him to provide for his family during the great depression. In the 1930's he bacame a Christian and belonged to Montezuma Indian Baptist Church . Once a month on Saturday and Sunday he and his family would stay at their cabin on the church grounds with other family members. The sermons were in Creek and the singing would last long into the night.
Harpley enjoyed hunting and fishing with bows which he made from the wood of bow d'arcwood and arrows he made from dogwood . He also played on an Indian baseball team .
The oil money ran out and the family moved to Oklahoma where Harpley was employed at a packing plant. Harpley and Amy had two children Elizabeth Naoma and Frederick Elliott. After Amy died he married Ann Pitts Brown. To this union were born Janice Lavon and DeLois Arlene. He also had two stepsons Larry and Doyle Brown.
Harpley is listed on the final Dawes roll as a newborn # 1216.
