Born in Hazleton, Joe was a son of the late Joseph and Anna Podrazik. He was a graduate of Hazleton Area High School. Joe was a veteran of World War II, serving in the infantry in the ETO and WPTO. He earned a bachelor's degree in education from Penn State University and a master's equivalency from Wilkes University. For 38 years, Joe did what he loved doing most – teaching – working in the Dallas Area and Wilkes-Barre Area school districts. In 1987, he retired from GAR Memorial High School as an industrial arts teacher. Shortly after retirement, Joe moved to Dushore, where he was able to pursue his love of the outdoors and enjoy the company of his friends. Joe was a member of the VFW Post 5267, American Legion Post 0452, Connell's Pond Camp and the White Ash Land Association, all in Sullivan County.
Joe was preceded in death by his wife, Genevieve; and his granddaughter, Kara; as well as his brothers and sisters, Walter, Mary, Julia, Louis, Helen and Richard.
He is survived by his daughter, Dr. Donna Podrazik, of Hanover Township; and his son and daughter-in-law, Joseph and Mary Podrazik, of Audubon, Pa. Joe also leaves behind a large "family" of friends who cared about him deeply and visited him during his lengthy illness. Joe will always be remembered for his smile, his unfailing good humor, his respect for nature and his willingness to help others.
Friends may call on Friday morning, July 18, from 9 to 11 a.m., at the Robert Bednarski Funeral Home, 27 Park Ave., Wilkes-Barre, to pay their final respects. A private memorial service will be held immediately afterwards with interment in Oaklawn Cemetery, Hanover Township. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Connell's Pond Camp, Dushore, PA 18614, where trees will be planted in Joe's memory this fall.
