Ethzelda Meroa was the daughter of Granville B. Mayfield and Clarissa N. Hutchinson .

The Meroa post office in West Cedar Township (now Meroa), Mitchell County, Iowa, was established in 1870 by her father and named in honor of her.

She married Newsam Rank, on February 04, 1878, in Mitchell County, Iowa. They had seven children.

After his death she married Simon Starkey on March 16, 1920.
∼Ethzelda was born in 1861 at Osage, Iowa to Granville B. and Clarissa H. Mayfield. She moved to the Farnam area in 1906. She was married to Newsam Rank for thirty-five years. He died in 1914 and in March 1920 she married Simon Starkey. Ethzelda died August 20, 1920 at her home in Farnam.

Gravesite Details

The gravesite has been unmarked for many years. A flat stone marker has been placed in 2019 at the Farnam Cemetery through a memorial received from the Farnam Alumni and Friends. She is buried by her husband of 35 years, Newsam Rank.
