Wilbur R. "Bill" Hoffman,the son of Ralph and Emma (Schleman) Hoffman,was born June 5, 1922 at Oak, Nebraska. He departed this life on Thursday, March 27, 2008 at his home north of Nelson, Nebraska at the age of 85 years. Bill attended school at Oak and Hebron, Nebraska. He married Betty May Lee; to this union four children were born. They were divorced in 1965. Wilbur served his country during World War II being inducted into the United States Army Air Corps on Febuary 8, 1943. He was honorably discharged on September 11, 1945. Following his discharge he worked for a short while at a bakery in Lincoln, Nebraska and was employed by Ideal Cement in Superior, Nebraska. In 1951 Wilbur began farming in Nuckolls County, northeast of Nelson, where he remained until the time of his death. Bill was a member of the Nelson VFW. He was preceded in death by his parents, son William R. (Bill) Hoffman,granddaughter Dale Lee Morton, siblings: Jenny McCauley, Lavada Stofer, Orville Hoffman, Shirley Brink, Darlene Turner, Ralph Hoffman, and Emma Ranson. He is survived by daughters Mary Carpenter of Kansas City, Missouri and Virginia Morton of Miami, Oklahoma; son Marvin Hoffman of Nelson, NE; sisters Lois Saldana of Lincoln, NE, Kay Bailey of Plattsmouth, NE and Una Mae Campbell of Kennewick, Washington; brother Robert Hoffman Of Berryville, Arkansas; 8 grandchildren, 8 great grandchildren, nieces, nephews, other relatives and a host of friends.
