~Charlie Posatale Barlow~

Charlie Barlow was the eldest child of Julius Posatale Barlow (aka Barlowe) and Temperance “Tempie” Cordelia McClurd.

Charlie married Lillie Stamey on August 2, 1912 in Burke County, North Carolina.

Charlie and Lillie were the parents of three children, Roy, Grady and Hazel.

Charlie was a farmer and timber worker. He attended 2nd Grandfather School and Watauga Baptist Church.

Charlie, age 27, died March 19, 1917 in Watauga County, North Carolina. Per his brother-in-law, Clayton Stamey, Charlie had lots of throat trouble and had throat surgery (believed to be a tonsillectomy) shortly before his death. Clayton stated that he had visited Charlie shortly after his surgery and that Charlie was chopping stove wood. Clayton believed that this caused severe bleeding which led to Charlie’s death.

Charlie’s survivors included his parents, Julius and Tempie; his wife, Lillie; two sons, Roy and Grady; a sister, Maude “Maudie”; and six brothers, Raleigh, Oren, Vernie, Paul, Stanley and Manley.

Charlie’s son, Roy Edward, died July 8, 1917, 3 months and 20 days after Charlie’s death. Lillie was pregnant at the time of Charlie’s death and their daughter, Hazel, was born August 30, 1917, 5 months and 12 days after Charlie’s death.

Note:
Charlie's grave marker lists his date of birth as September 11, 1889 and his date of death as September 12, 1914. Both are in error. Charlie's death certificate states his date of birth as September 17, 1889 and his date of death as March 19, 1917. The informant for the information on Charlie's death certificate was his father, Julius Barlow, and the death record was filed March 25, 1917 in the office of the Register of Deeds, Watauga County, NC. (See copy of death certificate posted).
