Her parents were Lewis Jones, who was born in the North, New York or Connecticut, and Sarah Benedict, born in Pennsylvania.
In the winter of 1820, January, Mary Francis, or "Fannie" as she was known, married Elijah Sturdevant, a man born and raised in Wyoming County, Pennsylvania. (Elijah had a twin, Elisha Sturdevant). Fannie was 22 years old, and Elijah 23.
Elijah's father was a farmer and Baptist preacher, and Elijah followed in his shoes on both accounts. Both Elijah and Fannie came from large families, and they had a large family of their own - thirteen children in all, before Fannie's untimely death in 1838, at age 41.
Their children were as follows: Sarah J (1820-1901), Rev Ira Jones (1822-1907), James Benedict (1824-1917), Lucy (1825-1850), (Infant 1828-1828), (Infant Twins 1830-1830), Lewis (1830-1854), (Infant 1831-1831), Edmund W (1832-1833), William Brantley (1834-1853), Helen (1834-1840), and Ellen (1836-1907).
Mary Frances Sturdevant departed this earth in late winter, 22 February, 1838, before either of her parents or husband. Five of her children had predeceased her; her youngest living child, Ellen, was just one-and-a-half years old.
She is laid to rest near husband Elijah at the Black Walnut Cemetery, also known as the Sturdevant Cemetery, in Meshoppen, Wyoming County, Pennsylvania.
