William Henry Holmes was the only living son of John Thomas and Ella Mae McKown Holmes. He was first married to Florance Ayers on 17 Feb 1917 in Lake Co. TN and they had two daughters, Alta b. 29 Aug 1918 and Florance b. 5 Feb 1920. His wife Florance and daughter Florance both died in 1920. Willie then married Cordie Bell Lovelace on 7 June 1924 in Tiptonville, Lake Co. TN and they had 7 children: Thomas Edward b. 2 March 1926, J.W.b. 30 Oct 1928, Clara May b. 10 April 1930, Albert Ray "Bo" b. 28 April 1932, Donald Gene b. 20 Nov 1940, Dewey Wayne b. 23 Nov 1944 and Freddie Joe born and died on 15 July 1948. Willie was a farmer and he built houses.

FROM THE SIKESTON HERALD, THURSDAY, DECEMBER 6, 1956:

William H. Holmes, 63 year old farmer of the Bement community near Bertrand, died suddenly of a heart ailment at his home about 8:30 a.m. Tuesday. The body was at the Nunnelee Funeral Home in Sikeston.

Mr. Holmes was a native of Ohio, having been born in Dashland County in that state on May 2, 1891. He removed to Scott county, Mo. About 20 years ago and engaged in farming. Eleven years ago he located on his farm in the Bement community, where he continued to reside and where he was a leading member of the Bement Baptist Church.

On June 7, 1924, Mr. Holmes was married to Miss Cordie Bell Lovelace, who survives him. Other survivors are two daughters, Mrs. Clara Williams of Nashville, Tenn. And Mrs. Alta Johns of Lutesville, Mo.; five sons, Thomas Homes of Chicago, J. W. Homes of Bertrand Rt. 1, Albert Ray, Donald and Dewey of the home, nine grandchildren and six sisters, Mrs. George F. Rainwater of Bertrand, Mrs. H.E. Givens and Mrs. W. A. Whitworth of St. Louis, Mrs. Otta Dahl of Bland, Mo., Mrs. W.C. Sherry of Casper, Wyo., and Mrs. Cora Burress of Martin, Tenn.
