Robert Eugene (Bob) Binns
Robert Eugene Bob Binns, 68, departed this life on Saturday, Jan. 27, 2007.
He was born in Baxter Springs, Kan., on April 29, 1938, to James Arthur "Art" Binns and Eve Verona Binns and was a proud, lifelong resident of Baxter Springs.
He graduated from Baxter Springs High School and attended Kansas State Teachers College, of Pittsburg, on an athletic scholarship.
Bob married his grade school sweetheart, DeAnne Rae Ball, on Nov. 6, 1957, at the Ottawa Baptist Indian Mission.
He founded and operated several businesses including Baxter Casket Company and Binns Rodeo Company, which featured one of the top strings of bucking bulls in the nation. After retiring from Eagle Picher Industries, where he served as sales manager, he took the position as territory manager for Tri-State Outdoor Media.
Bob was a member of the First Baptist Church and the Masonic Lodge No. 71, A.F.&A.M., of Baxter.
For the past 20 years, Bob and his wife, DeAnne, operated The Carriage Trade, providing horse drawn vehicles for weddings and special occasions.
Survivors include his wife, DeAnne Binns; daughter, Lindy Binns; son and his wife, Robert Scott Binns and Lawana Binns; five grandchildren who adored him, Summer Kemp, Laura Kemp, Ryan Kemp, Justin Kemp and Katie Kemp; mother-in-law, Gladys Ball; a brother and sister-in-law, Richard (Dick) Binns and Chris Binns; aunt and uncle, Robert E. and Hazel Lee; loving nieces, nephews and cousins; and one true Indian brother.
He was preceded in death by his mother and father; his older brother, Leo Binns; his father-in-law, Dale Ball; and brother-in-law, Bradley Ball.
Family visitation will be held at Derfelts Baxter Chapel in Baxter Springs Tuesday, Jan. 30, from 7 to 8 p.m.
Funeral services will be at First Baptist Church, Baxter Springs, on Wednesday, Jan. 31, at 2 p.m.
Interment will be at Baxter Springs Cemetery.
Revs. Gerald Dyer and Jeff Street will officiate.
Memorial contributions may be made to either the USD 508 Education Foundation in care of Derfelts Baxter Chapel, or to his church, the First Baptist Church, of Baxter Springs.
