Walter Eugene "Walt" McUmber

Aged 81, of Jackson. Our beloved husband and father was taken home to be with the Lord and Savior, January 8, 2005. He was preceded in death by his parents, Ruth and Wallace "Mac" McUmber and his brother, Richard "Dick" McUmber. He is survived by his beloved wife, Euna Mae (Sigers) McUmber. They were married February 21, 1942 in Napoleon, Michigan and shared a very special love bond for almost 63 years. Also surviving him are his children, William (Cheryl) McUmber, James (Susan) McUmber, Terrie (Doug) Clink; grandchildren, Weston (Brandie), Robert, Joshua and Maegan McUmber, Andrew, Allison and Alex Clink; great-grandchildren, MaKenzie and Morgan McUmber; one sister, Barbara (Brent) Beamish and one brother, Donald (Mary) McUmber; several nieces and nephews, and numerous good friends. Walt was a veteran of World War II serving in the U.S. Army from 1943 until 1946. After discharge he pursued a career in electronics and after attending Tri-State College he worked at Sparton Electronics from 1950-57. In 1957 he established McUmber Television, Inc., which he and his wife, Euna operated for 40 years, retiring in 1997. Walt was a man of many talents and participated in many activities. He was an avid golfer and for many years sponsored a team in the Monday night League at the Cascades Golf Course. He also had three hole-in-ones. He was an Amateur Radio operator (W8BAN) since 1947. He had a passion for aviation and received his pilot's license in 1954 and later became an IFR pilot. He was building an experimental aircraft until his health prohibited him from continuing. He had a love for art, photography, enjoyed bowling and spent many hours on his computers. He was an active member of Ganson Street Baptist Church for many years where he served on the Board of Deacons and the Board of Trustees (often as a chairman). He was extremely dedicated and took his duties very seriously. Visitation at the funeral home Friday, January 14, 2005 from 7 to 9 p.m. and on Saturday one hour before service time. at the church.Funeral services will be held at the Ganson Street Baptist Church Saturday, January 15, 2005 at 11:00 a.m. with the Reverend Don Deaver officiating. Interment Roseland Memorial Gardens. Contributions may be made to the Ganson Street Baptist Church. Military honors courtesy of the Jackson County American Legion Ritual Team.
