DIED: OLTMAN AKKERMAN March -- 1935 at the home of his daughter, Mrs Hans Jens, Friday March 29, 1935 at the age of 78 years five months and 29 days. He had been ill about five weeks. He was born September 30 1856 at Silver Creek Illinois, a son of Mike
and ---- Akkerman. At the age of 12 years the family moved to Grundy county Iowa and in 1908 came to Lyon county Iowa. He was married August 2 1881 to Clara Fluth.
Funeral services were held April 2 from the State Line Ebenezer church north of Rock Rapids. Burial was in the church cemetery beside the wife who preceded him in death in 1908. Pall bearers were six grandsons: Oltman Buss, John Kaiser, Jack Boomgaarden and Clarence, Lawrence, and Oltman Akkerman There are four daughters: Dever, Mrs John Kaiser, Rockford Illinois; Tillie, Mrs Hans Jens, Belvidere Nebraska; Annie, Mrs Ed Boomgaarden, Pipestone Minnesota; Helen, Mrs Herbert Jones, Rock Rapids Iowa; and the seven sons: Mike, Jake, Ed, Tom, Oltman, John, and Henry Akkermann, all living in this area. One brother, Thomas Akkermann, lives at Wellsbnrg Iowa. And so this community loses still another of its splendid pioneer settlers, a man who in spite of the hardships endured in the early days lived to a fine old age to enjoy the fruits of his toil. He was a good influence in the community and his memory is a happy one.
