Final Rites for C P Day Today

Tuesday marked the passing of one of Okolona's oldest, most prominent and beloved citizens when, at 2 pm, Mr. Charles Presley day, 85, died at his home. Mr. Day had been critically ill since Saturday. Funeral services will be conducted at 2:30 this afternoon at the residence by his pastor, the Rev. R B Patterson. Burial will be in the I O O F Cemetery.

Mr. Day, the son of the late George W and Martha Dabney Day, was born July 23 1854 in Marshall County, Tennessee. When a young man he came to Okolona where he made his home until his death. He came here as an employee of the Mobile and Ohio Railroad, working as chief clerk in the agent's office.

In 1905 he became an independent dealer in timber and ties, shipping large orders to railroads and other industries throughout the United States. About twenty years ago he retired from active business.

On February 3 1897, Mr. Day was married to Miss Mary Clifford Savage, who survives him. He is also survived by a niece, Mrs. Annie Mae Hooper, of Humboldt, Tenn., two nephews, George Dotson, of Homboldt, and George D Perry, of Tunica.

Mr. Day was a member of the Baptist Church and of the Knights of Pythias. Although he had been in failing health for several years, he never lost his interest in persons and events, his friendly manner, or his sense of humor. He was loved by persons of all ages. Every child knew him and always gave him a cheerful greeting. His passing is deeply felt by the entire town.

Pallbearers are: A N Cunningham, R A Dean, A W James, Chandler LaGrone, J C Luper, J T McKinley, C L McGehee and Jeff Rubel.
