Mrs. Mary McCoy
Mary Ellen (Thomas) McCoy was born April 7, 1861 in Champaign, Ill., the daughter of John and Margaret Thomas. She was one of a family of 10 children, all preceding her in death except one brother. Charles, of Urbana, Ill., and two sisters, Jennie Brownfield of Alabama; and Martha Clark, wife of V.H. Clark, of this city.
She came with her family to Polk County, Nebr., in 1883. Two years later she was married to Geo. R. McCoy, who was in business at Osceola for a number of years.
Surviving her are, one daughter, Blanche Snyder of Illinois, 4 grand children, Helen Boston of Wisconsin; Corwin Snyder of Minn., Aljean Little of Kansas; and George Snyder, of Ill., and 4 great grand children.
She was active member of the M.E. Church and is the last member of the Ladies Aid who helped build the present church and furnished the beautiful large window that has on it L.A.S.
She was a charter member of the Osceola Rebekah lodge which is now over 50 years old.
She was a member of the Eastern Star over 25 years, which organization is responsible for her being a guest at the Masonic Home at Platsmouth for over four years, where she passed away Dec. 27, 1942 after a brief illness.
Funeral services were held Thursday afternoon Dec. 31 from the Osceola Methodist church with Rev. G. A. Randall in charge. Interment was in the Osceola, cemetery.
