Rites for Mrs. Nannie Bacon
Saturday afternoon at 4 o'clock a large number of relatives and friends assembled in the sanctuary of the Okolona Methodist Church to pay final tribute to Mrs. Nannie Lou Bacon, wife of Waddie A. Bacon, retired grocer and farmer, who died at midnight Thursday in Okolona Community Hospital following an illness of several weeks. The rites were conducted by Rev. J. W. Chatham, pastor of Okolona Methodist
Church, and the Rev. Allison Bell, pastor of Okolona Baptist Church. The Methodist Choir, with Mrs. fred H. McGehee as accompanist, sang Have Thin Own Way and In The Garden.
Burial was in I.O. O. F. Cemetery with Barry Funeral Home in charge of arrangements. Pallbearers were grandsons.
Mrs. Bacon, 71, was a daughter of the late James and Josephine Reeder Grimes, pioneer residents of Chickasaw County, and was a lifelong resident of the county. She was married to Mr. Bacon 57 years ago,at age 14. For many years they resided on his large farm west on of Okolona at Bacon Switch, a flag stop on the M. & O Railroad named for Mr. Bacon. For the past several years they had resided just east of Okolona.
She was a devoted wife, loving mother and loyal friend.
In addition to her husband, she leaves two sons, William Armon Bacon of Aberdeen, M/Sgt Mack H. Bacon, stationed in Europe with the Air Force, who arrived shortly after his mother died; five daughters, Mrs. Walter White of Mobile ,Ala., Mrs. M. J. Malone and Mrs. Ike Parchman Jr. of Amory, Mrs.C. A. Carter of Kosciusko and Mrs. Clyde Carnathan; two brothers, Gip Grimes of Jackson and Howard Grimes of Houlka; 19 grandchildren and 18 great-great grandchildren.
