Son of George W. & Helen M. Johnston who resided in Freeport, Long Island, New York.

George served as a Staff Sergeant & Gunner on B-26B #42-96132, 598th Bomber Squadron, 397th Bomber Group, Medium, U.S. Army Air Force during World War II.

He resided in Queens County, New York prior to the war.

He enlisted in the Army Air Corps on October 20, 1942 in New York City, New York. He was noted, at the time of his enlistment, as being employed as a Manager and also as Single, without dependents.

George was "Killed In Action" when his B-26B crashed 400 yards off Friston, Sussex, England. They were attempting to return on one engine after being struck by enemy anti-aircraft flak.

He was awarded the Purple Heart.

He was originally interred in England and was later repatriated here on January 19, 1949.
