George W. Armour Dies After Long Illness
Following a long illness from a heart ailment, George Washington Armour died at 11:15 last night at his home at 966 Lake street.
Mr. Armour was born at the Armour homestead near Bertrand in Mississippi County the son of Mr. and Mrs. George Armour, pioneer residents of that community. An elder Armour gave the land for sites of the Armour school house and the Armour cemetery three and a half miles south of Bertrand, and was long a prominent Mississippi county farmer.
George W. Armour was married May 14, 1911, to Miss Bertie Mainord, who survives him. For some years he engaged in farming and in 1924 came to Sikeston, where he had since resided. He was a member of the Methodist church.
Surviving, besides the wife, are two sons, Ralph of Sikeston and Conn Armour of St. Louis; three brothers, Dan Armour of Dallas, Texas, R.B. Armour of St. Louis and Thomas J. Armour of Danville, Ill., and one sister, Mrs. M. T. Nicholson of Flint, Mich.
The body is presently at the Nunnelee Funeral Home. Funeral arrangements are incomplete.
