Daniel Marion O'Berry was born in Pierce County, Georgia more than 163 years ago on February 11th, 1860 to his father, James Ransom O'Berry and mother, Susannah "Susan" Albritton. Tonights subject was the eldest of 8 verifiable children welcomed into the World by his parents. "D.M.'s" younger siblings included Argenia, James Franklin, Reuben Wesley, Sarah Matilda, Levina Jane, Edmund Britton, and Susan Mabel.
O'Berry Patriarch, James Ransom, a CSA Veteran of the American Civil War supported his family as a lifelong farmer. Upon the close of the war between the states, they relocated to Hernando County along the Nature Coast in the Sunshine State of Florida.
Daniel married Florida native, 21 year old, Mary Ann Nicks on January 19th, 1882. Together the couple would have eight children of their own during the course of their lives. Chronologically they welcomed Annie Susan, Daniel Britton, Sophroni, William Henry, Mary Janie, Jemima Frances, Edmund Rinaldo and Molly Celia O'Berry.
Like his father before him, Daniel Marion partook in the field of farming.
Other than one incredibly tragic instance, the O' Berry's lived predominantly under the proverbial radar. On January 1st, New Years Day in the year, 1926 Daniel Marion and Mary Ann's son, William Henry (36), a Hernando County Deputy Sheriff was shot and killed in the line of duty.
Regrettably this honoree succumbed to a multi year battle with heart disease on March 25th, 1926. He was sixty six
