Ruth Elizabeth (Gist) Barchet, 88, of Evansville, passed away Friday, May 23, 2008, at her home with care from Hospice and her family.
Ruth was born February 15, 1920, to William and Delia Gist. She graduated from Central High School in 1938.
She married George and lived in his family home for 70 years.
She was a homemaker and enjoyed quilting, crafts, bowling, German Twp Booster Club and in later years loved to travel with her kids. She was devoted to her children and grandchildren. Ruth was the rock everyone depended on.
Ruth was preceded in death by her husband, George in 2000, her parents, brothers, Bob, Bill, Ray, Joseph, Kenneth and sister, Mabel.
She is survived by four sons, Richard (Jeri), Carl (Kathy), Gilbert (Linda) all of Evansville and Larry (Dyann) of Schaumburg, IL; two daughters, Carolyn Koehler (Robert) of Evansville and Linda Barchet (Dirk Van Gucht) of Bloomington, IN; brother, Melvin; three sisters, Mary Phillips, Wanda Givens and Patsy Sproat; 12 grandchildren; 24 great grandchildren; and two great great grandchildren.
She was an active member of Westwood Baptist Church.
The family would like to thank Drs. Kincaid and Stephens and nurses, Shirley and Diane from Hospice for their tender care.
Services will be 10 a.m. Tuesday, May 27, 2008, at Alexander West Chapel, officiated by the Rev. Rodney Sloan, with entombment at Alexander Memorial Park.
