Eugene H. Pieper
Gene Henry Pieper was born on April 4, 1924 to Joe and Mary (Grosserhode) in Colfax County, near Dodge, Nebraska. Following his education, he entered the United States Army and spent time in Osaka, Japan. On June 6, 1947 he was honorably discharged and returned to Nebraska.
On January 27, 1948 he was united in marriage to Bernadine Kreikemeier at the St. Boniface Catholic Church in Monterey, NE. After their marriage, they farmed near Snyder, NE and near West Point, NE where seven children were born. In 1957, they purchased a farm southwest of Gary, SD and were blessed with seven more children. In 1989, Gene retired from farming. Following retirement, Gene remained on the farm until the last 5 weeks, when he became a resident at the Deuel County Good Samaritan Home in Clear Lake, SD. Gene passed away there on July 3, 2007 at the age of 83 years, 2 months and 29 days.
Gene was a member of the St. Peter's Catholic Church in Gary, SD. He was also a member of the Peden-Cole American Legion Post #109 in Gary. He enjoyed spending time with family and friends, playing cards and having coffee.
He is lovingly remembered by his wife Bernadine Pieper, Gary, SD; two sons; Melvin (Tawne) Pieper, Gary, SD and Michael (Kelly) Pieper, Mariposa, CA; 11 daughters, Eileen (Tor) Nygard, Nigeria, Africa, Barb (Donn) Peterson, Canby, MN, Rita (Dennis) Hoemberg, Robbinsdale, MN, Joyce (Paul) Rentz, Morris, MN; Maxine (Ken) Craft, Ramsey, MN, Gloria Fritz (special friend Dave) Brooklyn Park, MN; Joletta (Brad) Miller, Porter, MN, Betty (Dale) Gates, Lennox, SD, Mary Jane (Bill) Strickland, Cheyenne, WY, Linda (Gary) Giese, Clear Lake, SD, and Janelle (Eugene) Lorenzen, Gary, SD; 35 grandchildren; 8 great grandchildren, two brothers; Art (Janice) Pieper, Lafayette IN and Allan (Judy) Pieper, Des Moines, IA; two sisters; Imelda Pieper, Dodge, NE and Imogene (Henry) Schlickbernd, West Point, NE and many nieces and nephews.
Gene was preceded in death by his parents, three brothers and one son Joey Pieper.
Mass of Christian Burial was held on July 6, 2007 at 1:30 pm at St. Peter's Catholic Church at Gary, South Dakota with the Fr. Brian Simon officiating. Pallbearers were Erik Nygard, Patrick Rentz, Michael Fritz, Zach Lorenzen, Josh Peterson, Aaron Craft, Joseph Miller and Sawyer Giese.
