SODA SPRINGS — Beth Lowe Hoopes, 83, of Soda Springs, passed away in the arms of her family during the early morning hours of April 5, 2007, at her son's home in Tooele, Utah, while her devoted daughter was out of town. She had dealt for many years with painful arthritis, and now we know she is able to fully extend her extremities around those she loves, who greeted her with great anticipation.
She was born in Alexander, Idaho, to Don Carlos Lowe and Manilla Gunnell on October 16, 1924, and was raised in the Grace area.
She married Jack Richard Hoopes in Pocatello, Idaho, on her birthday in 1944. They lived on the Hoopes' family ranch for a time, and then moved into a small home by her parents to help with the farm. Jack then went into business with Claude Mendenhall at the service station in Thatcher.
Soon after the birth of their second child, they moved to Soda Springs, where Jack took employment with the construction of the Monsanto Company, and stayed until his retirement in 1980. Upon moving to Soda, they bought their first home on North Third East. After the birth of their third child, they moved to a larger home on Hooper Avenue, and then to their home in the Cedars. After Jack's death in 1992, Beth moved to her current home on North Main.
Beth was always active in the LDS Church, serving in the Primary, Relief Society and Sunday school programs. She enjoyed visiting teaching also. She was involved in community activities with the Pink Ladies, Civic Club, DUP and Homemakers Club.
Many friends and family were the recipients of her talents in the kitchen, particularly her baking skills. After her retirement from the kitchen at the Caribou Memorial Hospital, she and Jack and many Soda friends traveled south each winter, and we all loved to hear of those adventures!
She is survived by one brother, Irel (Denise) Lowe, Brookings, Oregon; one daughter, Linda (Dennis) Godfrey, Soda Springs; one son, Randy (Patricia) Hoopes, Tooele, Utah; five grandchildren, Kimberly (Terry) Godfrey, Orange, California, Dustin (Shelli) Godfrey, Meridian, Idaho, Brian (Christy Johansen) Hoopes, Midvale, Utah, Victoria (Joseph) Hale, Star Valley, Wyoming, JoAnna (Andrew) Carter, Port Hueneme, California; one granddaughter-in-law, Kimberly (Justus Cowley) Hoopes, West Jordan, Utah; 11 great-grandchildren, Jade and Marina Bassett, Jordan, Sydney and Bailee Godfrey, Zoe Hoopes, Gage and Coen Cowley, Dillon Hoopes-Carter, Emmalee and Adam Hale. She was preceded in death by her parents and one son, Richard Deon Hoopes.
Funeral services will be Friday, April 13, at noon at the Hooper LDS Church. A viewing will be held Thursday evening, April 12, at the Sims Funeral Home from 7 to 8 p.m., and Friday morning from 10:30 to 11:30 a.m. at the Hooper LDS Church. Services are by the Sims Funeral Home.
