Obiturary: " Early Settler Called" 1907
-The friends whom our fathers were glad to welcome to their home firesides have most of them passed to the silent city, whence none return. Of those early freinds no one was more highly esteemed than was the late Jacob Hetrick of Elida. The warm and disinterested friendship which exsisted between the the two men our father and Mr. Hetrick, was beautiful.
-We remember how Mr. Hetrick come to our home for sympathy when he received the news of the death of his son Ben, whose death, by accident, was the first fatality in the 92nd regiment. Afterward his son John, whose life might have been spared if he had been sent home, died a lingering death in a southern hospital. Those were days that bound men's hearts together in one common brotherhood.
-The Hetrick family lived on a farm north of this place for many years, until the strength of manhood's prime began to fail him when he retired from active life and moved to the home at Elida where he died.
-Whomever he met was attracted by the uprightness of his character and the kindness of his heart. His death occurred on April 11th 1907, in the 90th year of his age. He was born at Millerstown, Pa., August 1817. He is survived by his aged widow and eight children, four sons and four daughters as follows: Rev. A. W. Hetrick, Lighthouse; Adam H. Hetrick., Bridgewater, S. Dak.; Clarence, Alta, Iowa; William, of this vicinity; Mrs. M. Burch, Middle Creek; Mrs. Sarah Allen, Winnebago; Mrs. Mattie Mandeville, Elida; and Miss Mary Hetrick who has always remained at home to be a comfort and help to her parents in their declining years.
-The funeral services were held at the home Rev. J.S. Braddock conducting the service. The interment was made in the Middle Creek Cemetery.
