Leslie Ray ''Les'' Simmons Sr., 75, of Kankakee, died Friday (May 29, 1998) at Riverside Medical Center.

Burial, with graveside military services by the Aroma Park F-Troop, will be in Kankakee Memorial Gardens.

He was born Jan. 26, 1923, in Beaverville, the son of Roy Robert and Tessie Vina Wright Simmons.

His wife, the former E. Juanita Redman, whom he married Jan. 6, 1943, in Kankakee, died in 1996.

Surviving are three sons and daughters-in-law, Leslie Ray Jr. and Jacklin Ann, Clyde Robert and Lana Kay, and Joseph Richard and Gloria Jean, all of Kankakee; three sisters, Anna Scott of Aurora, Nina Hertz of Bonfield, and Helen Burnley of Kankakee; three brothers, Virgil of Victorville, Calif., Walter of Kankakee, and Charles of Bourbonnais; eight grandchildren, Diana Rae, Deborah Kae, Leslie Sue, John Leslie, Todd Robert, Stacey Lynn, Joseph Richard, and Carolyn Annette; and 10 great-grandchildren.

Deceased are his parents; two brothers, Robert and Roy; and one great-grandson, Dillon Harmon.

Mr. Simmons was a self employed automobile mechanic. He managed and ran the Star and Texaco Service stations on East Court and River streets for many years. He retired from the A.O. Smith Corporation maintenance department in 1985.

He was a veteran of World War II, and had served with the U.S. Navy Seabees 28th Special Stevadore Battalion and was honorably discharged on Dec. 26, 1945. He was a member of the U.S. Naval Seabee Island X-14, Kankakee.

He was associated with the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints in Bourbonnais.

He was a member of the International Assoc. of Machinists and Aerospace Workers Union 2059. He was also a member of the Loyal Order of Moose 802, Bradley.

He was a life member of American Legion Post 0085, Kankakee. He was also a life member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 2857, Kankakee.
