Jim was a life long resident of Madera though he was born in Estancia, New Mexico; moving to Madera in 1925. He attended the old Lincoln Elementary School and graduated from Madera High School in 1937. He is a veteran having served in the Army Air Force during World War II. Jim was a 37 year employee of the Madera County Sheriff's Department, serving the last 30 years in the position of Under Sheriff. He also was a 62 year member of the First Christian Church of Madera; Jim was also a member of Madera Lodge No. 280 F&AM, holding the Scottish Rite 32nd degree, High Twelve Club #646, Tehran Temple Aanmos of Fresno, CA, the American Legion Post #11, the VFW, the Independent Order of Odd Fellows, Madera Lodge #1327 and the Madera Noon Lions club.

On October 16, 1942 Jim and Norma Louise Sourbeer were united in marriage at Shepherd Field, Wichita Falls, Texas. To this union two sons were born, James B. and Larry Bruce. Jim and Norma moved to Madera in 1946.

Jim was preceded in death by Norma, his parents, Oran Clyde and Julia Gay Haney; and his three brothers, Doyle, Raymond, and Charles Haney. He They are survived by their two sons, James B. and wife Janet of Fresno, Larry Bruce and his wife Carolyn of Cushing, Oklahoma, six grandchildren, Rebecca Sickles and husband Alan, Nathan Haney and wife Theresa, Stephen Haney and wife Rebecca, Joshua Haney and wife Jeanna, Jamie Haney and husband Justin, Sarah Haney, three step grandchildren Leah Santagata, Lauren Wilson and Jesse Martindale, eight great grandchildren, nieces, nephews.
