Geneva M. Long Halsey, 96, passed away Saturday, April 26, 2008, at the home of her daughter in York, Pa., with her loving family by her side. Mrs. Halsey was born in Bristol, Tenn., on August 13, 1911, to the late Stephen F. and Dona M. (Long) Long. She was employed as a bookkeeper / accountant for the former P.A. & S. Small and Company for 10 years and the former Simon Corporation, both of York, retiring in 1975 after 12 years of employment. She had previously owned and operated a general store in Maryland. Geneva was a member of Union Lutheran Church, York for decades, the Church Ladies Bazaar and the A.A.R.P. She graduated from Marion High School in Virginia and Marion Junior College, Class of 1927, with a degree in Business. She was a gifted quilter and seamstress. Surviving are two sons, Donald G. Halsey, of Trout Dale, Va., and Richard D. Halsey, of Tendoy, Idaho; and a daughter, Janie D. Leik, of York, Pa. She adored and had special relationships with her ten grandchildren; 17 greatgrandchildren; and four greatgreat-grandchildren. In addition, she is survived by a special friend, Jean Noll, of York, Pa. She was preceded in death by two infant children, Ceibert Franklin and Helen Marie Halsey; a daughter, Shirley H. Bievenour; and a brother, Hunter Long. There is a memorial service scheduled for 11 a.m. Thursday, May 1, 2008, from the LeRoy R. Leber Funeral Home Inc., 2290 School St., York, Pa. Officiating will be Pastor Judith A. McKee. A visitation will be held from 10 to 11 a.m. prior to the service. Geneva's final resting place will be private in Mount Rose Cemetery, York, Pa.
