"RHEUA Wife of Samuel Brown" is on her tombstone and on the Connecticut Death Record, but was spelled "Rhuama" on the 1850 census, "Ruhamah" on the 1860 census and "Reuhamah" in Samuel Brown's will. The 1850 census has her born in Connecticut, but the 1860 Federal Census has her born in New York. She died in Pound Ridge and is buried in Long Ridge Union Cemetery in Stamford. It is safe to say that the 11+ miles separating Pound Ridge and Stamford is the area that she lived her whole life.

Connecticut, Deaths and Burials Index, 1650-1934:

Birth Date: abt 1777

Age at Death: 88

Death Date: 17 Jul 1865

The maiden name of Rheua Brown is unknown. Some have suggested that her maiden name is Jones. Rheua and Samuel Brown named their first child Mary.

The April 15, 1939 Bulletin of the Westchester County Historical Society published this query:

"Desire parentage and ancestry of Ruhamah (Rheua), wife of Samuel Brown, of Poundridge, Westchester County, New York. She was born April 23, 1777 and died July 17, 1865. They had the following children: Mary, Clarrisa, Arent [Aaron], Harriet, Sandy and Eliza, all born in Poundridge." Yet the calculation of her birthdate is April 17, 1777.
