BLIZZARD, Ralph Gene Died April 23, 2008, at the Kaiser Permanente Hospital following a long illness. Gene is survived by his wife Shirley, sons Dick, John (Dian), daughters Christine (Steve) and Lori, seven grandchildren and 6 great- grandchildren, sister Jane Linson, her son Robert and other numerous nieces and nephews. Gene was born in Columbus, Ohio, September 30, 1921. His family moved to San Francisco, Calif., during the depres- sion with his 3 bothers and one sis-
ter. The family then relocated to the Los Angeles area. Gene graduated from George Washington High School and entered the U.S. Navy in 1942. His naval service was in the aviation field where he continued his career until his retirement. While serving at Charlestown Naval Air Station in Rhode Island, he met Shirley. They married on October 25, 1944. After the war they settled in Southern California and began their family. They moved to Palmdale, Calif., in 1953. Gene built a house and continued his career in aircraft production and flight testing at Plant 42. He began his tenure at NASAs Dryden Flight Research Center in 1962. After retiring in 1982, he was active in the BPOE and the local Model A Ford Club. Visitation will be held from 4 to 8 p.m., Sunday, April 27, 2008, at Halley-Olsen- Murphy, Palmdale. Funeral Service will be held at 10 a.m., Monday, April 28, 2008, at the Elks Lodge, 240 E. Ave K, Lancaster. Burial will be at Desert Lawn Memorial Park, Palmdale. Reception will follow Burial at the Elks Lodge. In lieu of flowers please make donations to Elks Major Projects Fund.
