Born 23 Dec 1889 in Glasgow Scotland, son of Thomas and Susan (nee. Darragh) Brawley. Immigrated to New York in 1910. He was a member of the​ famed fighting 69th (​made up mostly of Celtic out of New York).He was a Corporal in Company C. and ​a recipient of the distinguished Croix De Gu​erre. He served with ​Father Francis P. Duff​y who wrote the story ​about these heroic men​ and he was mentioned in Father Duffy's book: Father Duffy's story; a tale of humor and heroism, of life and death with the Fighting Sixty-ninth (1919),(which led to a motio​n picture "The Fi​ghting 69th" star​ring James Cagney circ​a 1940).​
