Birth: Nov. 5, 1911
Death: Feb. 17, 2008

Former Bishop of the Diocese of Ariano Irpino - Lacedonia, Monsignor Nicola Agnozzi OFM. Conv., was born in Fermo, Italy, on November 5, 1911. Aged 19, he joined the Franciscan Minor Conventuals at their Friary of St. Joseph of Cupertino in Osimo, Ancona, being ordained presbyter at 22 years of age on March 18, 1934.

Five months later he received the missionary cross and left for Northern Rhodesia, present day Zambia. Twenty years later he was part of the first Conventual missionary adventure to Australia, held between 1954 and 1959. Returning to Zambia, he was named Auxiliary Bishop of the Diocese of Ndola, receiving his episcopal consecration with the Titular See of Adramyttium on July 1, 1962 from Bishop Francesco Costantin Mazzieri OFM. Conv., assisted by Bishops Marcel Daubechies M. Afr., and Timothy Phelim O'Shea OFM. Cap.

Following the retirement of the named Msgr. Mazzieri, the first Bishop of the Diocese, Msgr. Agnozzi was named his successor on February 1, 1966, by Pope Paul VI. Upon his return to Italy on March 24, 1976, he was named Bishop of the Diocese of Ariano Irpino - Lacedonia following the demise of Bishop Agapito Simeoni, where he remained until June 11, 1988, when he retired from office at 76 years of age.

As Emeritus, in September of that same year, he returned to Fermo, his native city, where he lived his remaining years among his fellow Franciscan Conventual Friars at the their convent of San Francesco, where he eventually passed away at the venerable age of 96, on Sunday, February 17, 2008. Successively, he "returned" to his cathedral of the Diocese of Ariano Irpino - Lacedonia after nearly twenty years of absence for interment.
