DEATH OF MR. L. C. FIELDS NEAR TOWN SATURDAY

Mr Levi Clark Fields, 88 years of age, one of Gordon County's most prominent citizens died at his home near Calhoun on Saturday, April 5th.

Mr. Fields was born in Cherokee County on June 8th, 1840, the son of Col. Lawson Fields, one of Georgia's greatest attainment. He enlisted in Cobb's Legion of Virginia at the outbreak of the Civil War, and took part in some of the hardest fought battles of the rebellion, notably that of Seven Pines.

Mr. Fields moved to Gordon County soon after the war and became one of the county's most progressive citizens. He was a gentleman of the old school, who by his quiet manner and lovable disposition won for himself many friends in all walks of life. His wife, who was before her marriage Miss Molly Fuller, of Calhoun, preceded him to the grave three years ago.

He is survived by three daughters; Mrs. C. B. Walker of Atlanta; Mrs. O. H. McWhorter, of Washington, D. C., and Mrs. J. W. Tedder, of Calhoun.

Our community was saddened to learn of the death of Grandpa Fields at McDaniels last Saturday. The bereaved have our sympathy.
