Curtis, Dorr Purdy, a member of the Mormon Battalion, Company B, was born Jan. 21, 1819, in Sempronius (now Moravia) Cayuga County, New York, a son of Beriah Curtis and Phoebe Purdy. He was baptized March 15, 1841, in Moravia, N.Y., by Palatiah Brown; came to Nauvoo in 1843, was ordained a Seventy in Nauvoo, came west in the 1846 exodus, enlisted in the Mormon Battalion, marched to California, and came to the "Valley" in 1847. He was married in 1848, his wife being already one of the settlers of Kaysville, Davis Co., Utah. He filled a mission to England in 1851-1854; acted as a Bishop's counselor in the Kaysville and Springville wards, in Utah, and moved to Springville during the "Move" of 1858. He was a very active man in military affairs, having been commissioned as a colonel by the Governor. He moved from Springville to Oakley, Idaho, and died Nov. 8, 1904.
