The Screven County native was a Methodist and recently attended North Newington Baptist Church. He retired in 1989 from Torrington Co. He worked as a mechanic and millwright most of his life. SURVIVORS: his wife, Mary Fields Carter; five children, Adolphus Jasper Carter III, Meredith Carter Waters, Joseph Wade Carter, Marlene Carter Emeott and Grier Valmore Carter; stepchildren, Jimmy and Jerry Fields; two brothers, Valmore Pryor Carterand Bert Verdier Carter; grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews. VISITATION: 6-8 p.m. today at Thomas C. Strickland & Sons Funeral Home, West Chatham Chapel in Pooler. FUNERAL: 11 a.m. Friday at Newington United Methodist Church, burial in Middleground Baptist Church Cemetery.
