Chadwick was one of 6 Winans brothers to fight in the Union Army during the Civil War.

Chadwick's military highlights:
March 17, 1862 enlisted as a Private for 3 years in Co. C, 109th PA.
March 19, 1862 mustered in as "Chide Winning".
July 19, 1865 mustered out in Washington D. C.

Some of the battles where the 109th saw action are:
Chancellorsville April 1863,
Gettysburg July 1963,
Atlanta April 1864,
and Sherman's "March to the Sea" 1864.

His brothers in the Union Army:
James (Co. C, 150th PA). July 1863, listed as MIA during the Battle of Gettysburg.

David (Co. D, 18th PA Calvary) was KIA near Hanover, PA in a skirmish with Jeb Stuart's Calvary on June 29, 1863.

Jason (Co. D, 83rd PA) was KIA in Battle of Hatcher's Run, VA, Feb. 6, 1865.

John (Regiment is not known at this time) survived the war and died of natural causes on Mar. 16, 1917.

Samuel (Co. C, 169th PA) survived the war and died of natural causes on Apr. 8, 1917.

NOTE: Several of the Winans boys spelled their last name "Winning or Winnings".
