George Welton Ward Sr. was the son and third child of twelve (nine lived past childhood), of John Ward Sr (1786-1848). and Susannah WELTON Ward (1789-1869). both of Suffolk, England.

George Welton Ward Sr. met Ann TRULOCK, daughter of Daniel William Trulock (1784-1824) and Mary Ann ATTWOOD Trulock (1788-1850) of Middlesex, England. George Welton Ward Sr and Ann TRULOCK Ward were married 24 Jan 1842 in England.

Together, George and Ann (his first wife) would have eight children. He would later marry Mary HANKINSON Ward(1840-1882), daughter of James Hankinson and Ann WYCHE Hankinson of England , as his second wife, on 25 Jan 1857 in Salt Lake City, Utah and have seven additional children (5 lived past infancy). Mary HANKINSON came over from England with her brother 23 May 1855 and marry George Welton Ward Sr two years later. There would be a three year overlap with the two wives before Ann TRULOCK Ward would pass away in 1860.

George Welton Ward and his family emigrated from Liverpool 2 Feb 1851 aboard the "Ellen Maria" to New Orleans. Traveled to St. Louis, up the Mississippi River aboard the steam ship "Alex Scott" & then aboard the "Robert Campbell" to Kanesville, Iowa. Family traveled with Captain Robert Wiemer Wagon Company in July 1852 to Salt Lake Valley, Utah, arriving 9 October 1852. Wintered at North Ogden, Weber Co. & moved to settle at Willard, Box Elder Co. Utah in the spring.There they farmed for the rest of their lives.

His children by his frist wife, Ann TRULOCK Ward, were: William Ward (1842-1876), George Welton Ward Jr (1844-1901), Richard Trulock Ward (1847-1917), Alfred Ward (1849-1918),Moroni Ward (1851-1927),John Joseph Ward (1854-1941),Ann Elizabeth WARD Lowe (1856-1919)Charles Robert Ward (1858-1907).

His children by his second wife, Mary HANKINSON Ward,were: Mary Ann WARD Wake (1858-1909), David Henry Ward (1860-1926), Sarah Ellen Ward (1862-1863), Joseph Welton Ward (1864-1922), James Albert Ward (1866-1868),Eliza Jane Ward (1868-1869), Hyrum Hankinson Ward (1870-1934).
