AGE 72 YEARS
John A. Dearn of Braintree, passed away Sunday morning, after a struggle with IPF. He was the son of Norman and C. Louise (Sweinimer) Dearn. He graduated from Brockton High School, Class of 1969 and went on to earn degrees from Massasoit Community College, Boston State College, and Bridgewater State College. While in college he financed 100% of his education working at Shaw's Supermarket, where he met his wife, Kathy.
Mr. Dearn had a 40 year career in human services where he was employed at several agencies in the area, working in residential facilities, serving children, adolescents, and adults with developmental and intellectual disabilities. He was a lifelong member of St. Paul's Church in Brockton, and served on its Vestry for many years. Mr. Dearn founded and was the commissioner of the Jamaica Plain Community Softball League for 35 years, where he also served as an umpire. He was an avid sports fan, and had season tickets to the New England Patriots for 50 years, he never missed a game.
Mr. Dearn is survived by his wife of 40 years Kathleen (Clark) Dearn of Braintree; his son, Michael; daughter-in-law, Kelly, and a granddaughter of Worcester.
Arrangements: Cartwright-Venuti Funeral Home, Braintree.
A Funeral will be held on Saturday, May 20th, at 10:00 AM in St. Paul's Parish, 701 Pleasant Street, BROCKTON, MA. Burial will follow in Melrose Cemetery, Brockton.
