Mrs. Fannie Matthews Wells, 73, well known resident of Wilcoe, WV, wife of the owner of the farm between Havaco and Wilcoe, went to be with her Lord at home. Death was attributed to a ruptured blood vessel resulting from a stoke earlier in the day.

A daughter of the late Wiley Matthews and Capernia Hatcher Wells, she was born in Galax, VA on April 29, 1877. She had been a resident of the county for the past 40 years, coming here from Virginia in 1910.

In 1903 she married James Luke Wells in Tazewell County, VA. They owned and operated a fruit stand near their home.

She is survived by her husband and daughter Mrs. Harvey Harris of Welch, WV, who is the Worthy Grand Matron of Welch Chapter No. 87 of O. E S. and four sons Fred Wells of New York, NY and Jack Wells, Paul Wells and Harry Pierre Wells all three of Wilcoe.

She is also survived by three brothers Wyatt Matthews of Puget Sound, WA, A C Matthews of Pulaski, VA and Fred Matthews of Galax and three sisters Mrs. J M Parrish and Mrs. T J Parrish of Galax and Mrs. W J Tracey of Radford, Va and 11 grandchildren and 2 great grandchildren.

Funeral services were conducted at Wilcoe Methodist Church with Pastor Reverend C L Kelly in charge.

Pallbearers were F S Shatley, Jack Hurt, P H Shelton, W S Fine, H E Brooks and P H Martin.

Interment was in Maple Hill Cemetery near Bluefield, VA.
