**From the Cadillac News: August 21, 2002:

Tiny sulphur butterflies took flight Monday, lifting some bereaved hearts during Hospice of Michigans second annual Memories in Flight event.

For a $5 donation to Hospice, people were able to sponsor a butterfly in honor of a loved one. About 50 people gathered to watch as the butterflies were released at the United Methodist Church.

Memories in Flight isn't really a memorial; it's a celebration of life, to remind us of the transformations we all go through in life, said Leslie Bell, program director for the Cadillac chapter of the organization, which provides comfort care to patients and families facing terminal illness.

As butterfly breeder Tania Hanline coaxed the butterflies from hanging cages made from tulle stretched over embroidery hoops, Ken Loomis stepped forward from the crowd, took one of the winged insects and held it between his cupped palms.

When the rest of the insects had been freed, Ken released his, saying, "This is in memory of my wife and my son."

Ken's wife, Kay, died three years ago. He lost his son, Phil, to cancer many years ago. Hospice helped in the care of both. They're angels from heaven, wonderful people, Ken said regarding the non-profit organizations staff and volunteers.
