18 Men of Cruiser Salem, Which Capsized, Missing.
Washington, Oct. 1 – Eighteen enlisted men from the cruiser Salem are missing as the result of the capsizeing of the boat in which they were returning from shore leave Sunday night in Key West, Fla. The names of the men were made public tonight by the navy department.
The list includes: Foster Avery Cavener, Cordell, Okla.

Died: USS Salem. September 29, 1918.
Cause: Drowned.
