World War II Staff Sergeant Burnett was killed flying his aircraft over England on his way to a bombing mission over Germany - ice had formed on the wings of his aircraft. He was initially buried in a US military cemetery in England and his remains were later returned to his next of kin for reburial.
Prior to his military service he graduated from high school in Valatie, NY (Columbia County) and married Daisy Cramer of Kinderhook, before enlisting in the Army Air Force in January 1942.
