American Revolution Soldier. Son of Col. Nathaniel (d. 1767-1768 in Mecklenburg Co.) & Elizabeth Alexander.

"According to Henderson, Nathaniel purchased Lot #19 in the west square of the town of Salisbury. Nathaniel's son George, who was an officer in the Continental line, later conveyed the lot to his Aunt Sarah, the widow of Moses Alexander. A.H. Boyden, a descendant of Moses and Sarah, was living in 1921, on the lot purchased by Nathaniel. Dr. Flow, in his articles on Alexanders which appeared in the Cabarrus County Tribune, says that Nathaniel had only the one son, George, who lies buried in Hunter graveyard across Rocky River from Poplar Tent Church." - Charles C. & Virginia W. Alexander, ALEXANDER KIN, pp. 15-16.

The proof is in a chain of three deeds: (1) on 29 May 1755 Nathaniel Alexander bought lot #19 in the town of Salisbury [Rowan County DB 5, pp. 534-535], (2) on 16 Jun 1773 George Alexander sold this same lot to Sarah Alexander (widow of Moses Alexander) [Mecklenburg County DB 7, pp. 470-472], and (3) on 26 Jun 1773 Sarah Alexander sold the same lot, and described it as "... from George Alexander, son & Heir of the sd. Nathaniel Alexander to the sd. Sarah Alexander by a Deed ... dated June 16th 1773..."
There were two, and possibly three, George Alexanders living in the Mecklenburg County area at the same time, who are often confused. One was a son of Catherine Alexander, widow of Theophilus Alexander, as proved in her 1775 will [Mecklenburg WB A, p. 16], but she did not reveal where son George was located. Another George was born 1 May 1764 on Sugar Creek, Mecklenburg County, as revealed in his Revolutionary War pension application made in Jasper County, GA [W8324]. The third was the Colonel George Alexander of this memorial.
