She was born March 30, 1944 in Fairmont, WV, the daughter of the late Lawrence Jason and Julia Ball Gwynn.
She was a music teacher for 30 years in the Ohio County Schools. She was the Handbell and Youth Choir director for 22 years at Vance Memorial Presbyterian Church, Wheeling, West Virginia. She was a member of the First Baptist Church, Fairmont. She attended Sullins College in Bristol, VA, the Cincinnati Conservatory of Music, and West Virginia University, where she earned a masters degree in music. She was a member of the American Recorder Society in Pittsburg, PA.
In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by a brother, David L. Gwynn in 1997.
Surviving are her husband, William C. Gladden of Wheeling; six nephews, David Gwynn of Parkersburg, Jay Gwynn of Fairmont, Andrew and Jonathan Powell, both of Bethesda, Corey and Scott Gladden, all of Palatine, Ill.; five nieces, Elizabeth Watkins of Fairmont, Susan Bucy of Lawrenceville, GA., Teri, Sara and Bridget Gladden of Palatine, Ill.; six great-nephews and nieces; a step great-nephew.
Friends received noon-3 and 6-8 p.m. today at Kepner Funeral Home, National Road at Bethany Pike, Wheeling. Services will be held at 11 a.m. Monday at Vance Memorial Presbyterian Church, with Rev. George B. Kurtz III officiating. Interment in Bethesda Ebenezer Baptist Cemetery, Bethesda.
