Mary Jane married Ephraim Mapel 31 Mar 1856 in Guernsey County, Ohio, and was the mother of twelve children: Lucinda, Milton, Mary Jane, William, Joshua, Harriet, George Washington, Nancy, Rachel Ann, Lee, and two that died in infancy. The family moved briefly to Poplar Grove, Fountain County, Indiana about 1863-65, before returning to Ohio. They came to Kansas about 1868. They first lived in Harrison Twp., Franklin County, KS for a few years and then was part of a local migration to the Longton, Elk County area in March of 1871.

Married Thomas D. Barnett on 02 Nov 1898, just a few months before she died.
