Hugh N. Cosgrove was born Sept. 2, 1838, at Westfield, N. Y., and died at his home near Denver, Colo. Dec. 9, 1922, following an illness of a week's duration.

He was a veteran of the civil war, a sergeant in Co. E, 154th N. Y. Inf. Came to Kansas in 1870, and was married shortly afterward. He resided near Springdale, later on the farm property out of which Edmonds church lot was cut, north of McLouth. From here he moved, in 1905, to Denver. He leaves a daughter, Nettie; a son, Clarence, of Calgary, Canada; a son John, of Denver, with whom he resided for the last twelve years; also nine grandchildren. His wife preceded him thirteen years in death.
