Henry Wagman Peck was born in Dutchess County and moved with his parents Amos and Mary Wagman Peck to Wagman's Ridge, Saratoga about 1805. In 1829 he was given the rank of Ensign in the Albany navy. As such he would have assisted the captain and lieutenant and taken charge in their absence. See his powder-horn photo from 1827 in additiona photos at left. Henry Wagman Peck married Melinda Vanderwerker Oct 6,1830 in Bacon Hill, NY. They produced Mary Ann Peck, George Henry Peck and Reed Peck. Henry bought the homestead farm in 1836 and built the homestead farmhouse in 1849 on the site of what used to be the Harris Tavern in Bacon Hill and later became Welcome Stock Farm. Henry began farming with Hiram Haight on Southard Rd. at Wagman's Ridge and then moved to River Rd in Bacon Hill in 1836. Henry and Melinda bought the farm from Wyett and Nancy Harris who are buried in Prospect Hill cemetery, Schuylerville, NY.
