Age 80, Peru, Neb., passed away Thursday (02/14/08) at his daughter's home in Firth. Born December 17, 1927 to Elmer Thurman and Helen (Neal ) Allgood at Peru. Albert was one of 8 children born to this union. Attended Pleasant Valley country school 4 miles east of Julian, Neb. through the 8th grade. 1945 Graduate of Peru High School. He worked for the railroad for one year before enlisting in the U.S. Army in 1946. Trained as a Medical Tech and served on many different camps. After 18 months in the service he returned home to Peru. Albert married Barbara Kizer and gained a step-daughter Trudy; he worked in a cafe and also at the lumberyard. Albert was serving in the Army Reserves and was called back to active service in 1950 where he served his country honorably in Japan in a Military Police Unit. After his tour he returned again to Peru. This is where Albert lived the rest of his life. Albert started to work for the USPS and was promoted to Postmaster. He retired from the Post office in 1992. Albert was an active member of the Peru V.F.W. Post #7299 were he served many offices and ran the V.F.W. Club in Peru for many years. Albert was also member of Auburn American Legion Post #23; N.A.P.U.S., League Postmaster Organization; and served as Adjutant General of the V.F.W. Albert had been living with his daughter Nancy for the past three years.
Survived by: two children, Trudy Allgood, Phoenix; and Nancy Caples, Firth; eight grandchildren, Brian Allgood; Mindy Moyer; Tony Allgood; Lisa Allgood; Chris Allgood; Kenneth Caples; Jeff Allgood; and Ryan Allgood; nine great-grandchildren; two great-great grandchildren; brother, Leonard, Papillion; sisters (spouses), Clara Jackson (Audley), Rock Port, Mo.; Ruth Earlywine, Omaha; Donna "Patty" Hulquist (Bill), Oakland, Neb.; Doris Wallace (John), Bellevue; other relatives and many friends. Preceded in death by his parents; wife, Barbara, in 2001; two sons, Dennis; and David; one daughter, Jackie Moyer; and one grandson, Corey Moyer.
Services: 11 a.m. Monday (02/18/08), Hall Funeral Chapel, Auburn, Neb. Burial: Mt. Vernon Cemetery with military graveside honors provided by Peru V.F.W. Post #7299 and Auburn American Legion Post #23. Visitation: 12 p.m. - 8 p.m. Sunday (02/17/08) with family greeting friends from 5 p.m. - 6 p.m. at the funeral home. Hall Funeral Chapel, Auburn, is in charge of arrangements.
