MRS. JOHNSTON DIES IN PONTIAC

Final Rites for Former Escanaba Resident To Be Held Here

Mrs. William H. Johnston, 74, well known resident of Escanaba, died early Monday morning at the home of her daugher, Mrs. Chris Jorgensen of Pontiac, where she had been living for the past year. She had been in poor health for some time.

She was born, Lockie Palmateer, in Sheldon, Ill., on November 30, 1867, and when a girl, moved to Marinette where her marriage to Mr. Johnston took place on November 30, 1887. The family moved to Escanaba thirty-five years ago, and Mrs. Johnston had lived here continuously from that time until she moved to Pontiac a year ago.

She is survived by her husband and ten children: Cedric Johnston, of Marion, N. C.; Mrs. Nettie Olsen, of Ford River; Mrs. Lora Dee, of Manistique; Mrs. Ethel Jorgenson, Pontiac; Mrs. Esther Sheffield, Chicago; Loren Johnston of Carney, and Harold, Charles, Warren and Curtis Johnston of Escanaba. She also leaves two sisters, Mrs. E. Y. Dow of Detroit and Mrs. Samuel Bennett of St. Could, Florida, one brother, Walter Palmateer, of Marinette, thirty-one grandchildren and three great grandchildren.

The body will be brought to Escanaba early Wednesday morning and will be taken to the Degnan Funeral Home where it will be in state beginning at 2 o'clock Wednesday afternoon. Services will be held at the funeral home chapel Thursday afternoon at 2:30 o'clock., Rev. William A. Gregory of the First Methodist church officiating, and burial will be in the family lot in Lakeview cemetery.
